Diners arriving at the Hu Ke Lau in Chicopee on a recent Saturday night did a double take when they spotted TV star Jennifer Love Hewitt working the souvenir table in the front lobby. No, economic hard times have not fallen on the glamorous “Ghost Whisperer” and former “Party of Five” favorite.

Hewitt, once voted the “Sexiest Woman in the World” by Maxim magazine readers, accompanied her boyfriend, comic Jamie Kennedy, to his June 27 performance at the Hu Ke Lau’s Comedy Connection.

Kennedy quipped during his routine that he has had to endure tabloid headlines like “Jennifer Love Hewitt scrapes bottom of the barrel,” adding he thought Gary Busey or Nick Nolte would have been far worse choices for Hewitt.

Hewitt joined Kennedy on stage at the conclusion of his set to field audience questions ranging from details about her love life to the future of “Ghost Whisperer,” which returns to the airwaves in September. The couple posed for pictures and Kennedy autographed copies of his DVDs before heading out.
